SIR ZIAUDDIN AHMED, SHAIKH ABDULLAH (PAPA MIAN) & ZAFAR IQBAL AWARDS
Applications Invited For Sir Ziauddin Ahmed, Sheikh Abdullah (Papa Mian) & Zafar Iqbal Awards 

To enhance youth participation, the Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations has established two annual awards for best high school graduates. The Sir Ziauddin Ahmed and Shaikh Abdullah (Papa Mian) Awards will be presented at the 7th annual convention in August 2008. Students graduating from high school in 2008 are invited to apply for these awards.  

The Zafar Iqbal Award for Excellence in Sports is instituted by the Federation to encourage the youth to excel in sports as well as in academics. The award will be presented at the 7th annual convention in August 2008. Students (12 – 18 years of age) are invited to apply for this award. 

SIR ZIAUDDIN AHMED, SHAIKH ABDULLAH (PAPA MIAN), ZAFAR IQBAL AWARDS

Guidelines 

1.       Three awards have been established per year, Sir Ziauddin Ahmed Award for a male student and Shaikh Abdullah (Papa Mian) Award for a female student for excellence in high school studies and Zafar Iqbal Award for excellence in sports and studies. Each award will consist of a cash prize of $300, a plaque and a complimentary dinner ticket to the recognition award presentations at the banquet dinner, which is the highlight of the annual convention.

2.       The awards will be called Sir Ziauddin Ahmed, Shaikh Abdullah (Papa Mian) and Zafar Iqbal Awards, honoring the former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, founder of women’s school at Aligarh Muslim University, and former skipper of India's national Hockey team respectively.

3.       All bonafide students who are the children of AMU Alumni/Member of AMU Alumni Association in North America are eligible for these awards.

4.       Students must apply for the award using an application form that is available on the Federation’s web site (see below). The application form must be signed by the student’s father/mother and must be accompanied with a copy of their high school transcript and a copy of SAT transcript. Candidates for sports award should also attach copies of all the sports related awards received from July 2007 to June 2008.

5.       The only criterion for selecting an awardee (for excellence in studies) will be the combined score of high school GPA and SAT score.

6.       Criterion for selecting an awardee (for excellence in sports and studies) will be the combined score of sports related awards (received from July 2007 to June 2008) + school GPA.

7.       The recipient must be present to receive the award.

8.       Awards may not be given if the student awards committee does not identify satisfactory recipients.

World Summit of AMU Alumni – 2008

Aligarh : Vice President of India , M. Hamid Ansari inaugurated the World Alumni Summit. The two-day Summit , will provide a platform for the thousands of AMU alumni spread all over the globe to establish a permanent AMU Alumni Foundation as a perpetual facility for maintaining links with their alma mater.
